- A directory listing. Your business goes in the Idaho veteran and military spouse business directory where customers can find you.
- The statewide network. Roughly 1,400 members, including a growing North Idaho contingent.

Idaho SBDC, Region 1
Hosted at North Idaho College, 420 N College Drive, Hedlund Building room 145, Coeur d'Alene. Covers Kootenai, Bonner, Boundary, Benewah and Shoshone counties. One on one advising is free. Workshops are low cost. This is the single most useful first stop for a North Idaho business owner who wants structured help with a plan or projections.
Coeur d'Alene Area Economic Development Corporation
Formerly Jobs Plus, and still listed under that name in some places. Free and confidential help with site selection, permitting, incentives and workforce recruitment across Kootenai County. Most useful once you have something physical to place or people to hire.
Panhandle Area Council, Hayden
Administers SBA 504 loans and runs its own revolving loan fund in the $50,000 to $750,000 range for gap financing alongside a bank. Worth understanding the structure before you walk in: on a 504, a bank carries about 50 percent, PAC handles about 40 percent, and you bring roughly 10 percent. PAC is not the whole loan, it is one piece of a stack.
Innovation Collective
A large coworking and startup space at 418 E Lakeside Avenue in Coeur d'Alene, with events and mentorship attached. Useful if you want to be around other founders rather than working alone at your kitchen table.
North Idaho College
Runs an entrepreneurship certificate, and its Veterans Resource Center in the Edminster Student Union handles benefits questions and referrals for student veterans.
Idaho Division of Veterans Services
Field service officers covering Kootenai and Bonner counties are based in Post Falls. They handle benefits and claims rather than business questions, but if your VA situation is tangled, sort that out before you try to build on top of it.

Two Things Worth Knowing Before You Start Calling Around
Veterans Business Outreach Center coverage is in flux
The SBA funds VBOCs to serve veteran entrepreneurs. Idaho has been covered on an ad hoc basis by the Big Sky VBOC in Montana rather than by a center of its own, and Senator Risch's office pressed the SBA on this in June 2026. Check current SBA listings before you assume where your coverage sits, or ask us at VETworking, because this is moving.
SCORE does not cover North Idaho
SCORE Idaho serves Southern Idaho. There is no North Idaho chapter. Remote mentoring from the Boise chapter may be reachable, but do not plan around a local SCORE mentor in Coeur d'Alene, because there is not one.
We are in North Idaho because we believe we can do real work here and because this community is worth building. Coeur d'Alene is a foothold and we intend to build on it.
What Building a Business in Kootenai County Actually Looks Like
North Idaho is growing faster than the country as a whole. Kootenai County is home to roughly 182,000 people, and the wider five county region is projected to add jobs at a rate that outpaces national growth. Healthcare and social assistance, retail, and construction are the largest employment sectors.
The constraint that catches people is housing. Median home prices sit near $549,000 countywide and higher inside Coeur d'Alene, against a regional need of several thousand new homes a year that is not being met. That matters to you as a founder in two specific ways: hiring is harder than the job numbers suggest, because candidates have to be able to afford to live here, and commercial rent has moved in the same direction as residential.

Is VEA membership really free for North Idaho veterans?
Yes. VEA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded by donors, sponsors and corporate partners so that membership costs members nothing. There is no paid tier and no regional pricing.
Does VEA serve Sandpoint, Post Falls and Lewiston, or only Coeur d'Alene?
All of them. Coeur d'Alene is where our North Idaho in-person events run today, and everything else we do is statewide. We are open to additional VETworking chapters in places like Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, Lewiston and Moscow, wherever there is local interest and no existing chapter nearby.
